Actionable EA enables you to:

Here’s a brief overview of how to go from modeling to execution. First, you build a workflow model in ProVision. Use this model as your model of record. Then you add integration details and define relations to your workflow model. Have ProVision connect to MIM and you can go straight to execution without any intermediate modeling necessary. Once your workflow is published in MIM, you can audit every step in your process. You’ll be able to view how the system is performing, the time it took on each step, and you can even see which step has failed in the process.

As most of us already know, the credit crunch has forced a number of financial lenders to reevaluate their business processes not only to manage its data securely and efficiently but also to meet new government compliance requirements.

One agency in New York for instance is using Managed File Transfer (MFT) technology to automate the financial aid lifecycle of files. Their investment helped suit multiple process management and data transfer needs for the entire organization and provided a platform to ensure compliance with new student loan industry standards.

Like many organizations, the agency was using a legacy system that was written over ten years ago and though it definitely served its needs, the system had become antiquated. Because they receive forms from a myriad of sources (banks and educational institutions), and via a number of upload options (FTP upload, web upload or email attachment), the agency used Metastorm Integration Manager (MIM) to transfer all files related to the financial aid lifecycle — including TAP certifications, loan guarantee files, manifests, electronic funds transfers, default collections as well as inbound and outbound disbursement files.

The technology has enabled the agency to automate, streamline and accelerate the way in which it handles its file transfers between its many trading partners. MIM has also helped the agency leverage a service-oriented architecture (SOA) because of its scalable foundation that will allow them to build new features and enable them to meet the data integration, MFT, and business process integration requirements in the many years to come.

Significant upgrades to its Metastorm Integration Manager product include:

1. Self-service, web-based interface for service management to reduce the overhead and decrease failure downtime by providing increased visibility, improved manageability, and event-based alerts to service teams.

2. Enhanced security by allowing administrators to segment which users can view and interact with specific data, ensuring that only the relevant internal constituents and external partners have access to critical business information.

3. Extension of web-services platform and support for IBM WebSphere, Java 6 and new versions of Microsoft Windows, IBM AIX and other platforms increasing the level of integration and process controls.

The BPM space is starting to heat up again. Given the economy and the efficiencies that BPM can drive it’s been a clear focus for analysts, media and customers alike. As we’ve discussed on this blog before, Gartner earlier in the year announced the results of a survey that estimates companies can save as much as 20 percent within the first year of BPM implementation. Gartner analyst Dave McCoy has of course set up a blog to discuss the impact of process automation in today’s market environment. And, in the press release for this announcement, Gartner’s Frank Kenney says, “As modernization and cost optimization become crucial challenges, process identification, simulation and re-engineering are fast becoming more than niceties – they are becoming necessities.”
