Are BPM budgets increasing in 2010?

Posted by: Metastorm PR on: August 11, 2009

A recent Gartner survey revealed that BPM budgets are expected to increase over the next 12 months. In February and March 2009 Gartner surveyed hundreds of business and IT professionals at the Gartner BPM Summit in London and the Gartner BPM Summit in San Diego. More than a third of the respondents said they are expected to increase their BPM spending by as much as 10 percent in 2010.

The Gartner study parallels with Metastorm’s April 2009 customer survey that yielded similar results. Metastorm’s survey asked over 400 business and IT managers:

• Their top process improvement focus area
• How Metastorm software is helping organizations survive the recession and
• ROI delivered by Metastorm software

While all of the results demonstrated a need and value for BPM, the highlights of the Metastorm survey include:

• 64 percent of respondents cited operational processes core to product or service delivery as their top focus area for 2009
• 67 percent of respondents said Metastorm software is helping them deliver increased employee productivity in the recession
• Average ROI from a Metastorm software project is between 16 and 30 percent per process deployed on Metastorm BPM, with some returns coming in at over 100% ROI

Because both studies were conducted in the midst of a challenging economic climate, the results certainly ascertain that business and IT professionals find value in BPM technology and use it as a tool to deliver results in a down economy.
